Sobey Award Longlist 2020
Thank you to the Sobey Art Award / Prix Sobey pour les arts, the National Gallery of Canada and the vision of this year's Sobey Award Jury for this radical act of support and care for artists. I am so grateful for this support, especially in the face of so much precarity. Artists show us how to see in new ways, how to connect in new ways, and how to think in new ways. It will be creative, outlier, unexpected ideas that help us imagine our collective future in this new weird reality we are now living in. Ideas like this one- to support 25 practices equally, and the ideas and practices of the young artists on this list. Congratulations to my fellow listers, it is a huge honour to see our work celebrated together. For every artist represented here there are hundreds of others that are vital in our community. We need the arts now more than ever- so please support, celebrate and invest in artists and the arts.
